5 ways to level up your PS5 Experience

The release of the Playstation 5 in November 2020 was the biggest game console launch in US history, surpassing the previous record held by its predecessor, the PS4. While its rollout has been overshadowed by production shortages, the PS5 has nonetheless become a highly desirable device, selling over 10 million units worldwide.

With higher frame rates, 4K resolution, and a beautiful and feature-packed new DualSense controller, the PS5 represents a major upgrade over its predecessor.

That said, while the PS5 is a home run on a technological level, its external hardware can leave some things to be desired. Whether you’re one of the lucky few who own a PS5 or you’re aspiring to grab one soon, a few accessories can go a long way to improve your gaming experience.

1. Make some room

The appeal of the stand that comes with the PS5 is that it holds the console in both vertical and horizontal positions. But designing for two functions has resulted in a stand that relies on a couple of small hooks loosely clutching one side. Needless to say, it can be a little unsteady. In both vertical and horizontal modes (but especially horizontal), the console can wobble with even a gentle push.

Fortunately, there’s a simple and affordable solution. With the NexiGo PS5 Horizontal Stand, you will have a reliable and sturdy base that’s easy to assemble. Rather than a single central base, the stand consists of two plastic clips that connect to each side of your console. The stand is compatible with both the disc and digital editions of the PS5.

Not only does this horizontal stand protect your console from scratches and scuffs, but it has a better chance of fitting into your entertainment center. For many, the biggest problem is that the PS5 takes up a ton of room when it's standing vertically. Once the console is sideways, it slides into your cabinets with ease so it doesn’t get in the way of your TV. If you’re among those who want to save space in your entertainment center but hesitate to place your PS5 horizontally due to the subpar stand, this is what you’ve been waiting for.

2. Keep all of your accessories in one place

If your entertainment system has room for a vertical display, the NexiGo PS5 Cooling Stand is a great way to keep your console and all of its accessories in one place.

A multifunctional stand like this offers a lot of utility. The first advantage is the cooling station, which is designed to improve the airflow around and through the PS5. This can reduce the chance that your PS5 will overheat and crash during an important game, and it could even increase the lifespan of your console. While the PS5 doesn’t need as much additional cooling as some previous consoles, it’s always good to have a proper fan system when you’re playing for hours at a time.

Currently, the DualSense controllers have about 7-12 hours of battery life, so you may be spending a lot of valuable time waiting for them to charge. With the dual controller docks on this stand, you can fully charge two controllers within about three hours. And to remove any confusion, the LED Indicator lights make it easy to tell when they’re ready — a red icon is displayed when the controller is charging, and blue when fully powered.

This stand also has 10 available slots for your games, a holder for your headset, and storage for your remote control device. Ultimately, it’s nice to have a full display to show off your PS5. Even if you don’t take advantage of all its features, it’s still a very stylish and practical stand nonetheless.

3. Recharge your controller wirelessly

Every gamer has likely had the disheartening experience of sitting down for a game and realizing their controller battery is dead, meaning they’ll have to be tied to a charging cord while playing. This normally requires sitting really close to the TV, which is not ideal if you’re gaming on a big screen. And if you’re playing a game that uses the DualSense controllers' innovative haptic feedback, you could drain the battery faster than you think.

Rather than relying on the cable, you can charge your PS5 controller wirelessly using the NexiGo Rechargeable Battery Pack. This portable battery adds up to six hours of playtime, while only needing three hours to charge itself. That way, you never have to worry about losing battery midway through your game.

4. Customize your controllers

Have you ever argued with a sibling or a friend over which controller was yours? To be fair, if they all look exactly the same, how can you tell?

Sony just released five new controller colors, but they each cost a hefty $75. If you don’t have the budget for a new one, you can instead give your current controller a colorful facelift with the NexiGo Controller Faceplates. Fortunately, the DualSense was designed to make this easy: just remove the original black faceplate from the DualSense controller and replace it with the new one.

This is not only a more affordable way to customize your controllers — it also provides styles you won’t find elsewhere. The NexiGo faceplates come in red, blue, gold, and silver, plus multiple colors of camouflage.

5. Game on the go

With all the PS5’s power, there also comes extra weight. Luckily, you don’t have to lug the PS5 around to play its games away from home. Sony’s free PS Remote Play App allows you to enjoy your console from an Android or Apple smartphone, tablet, or PC, as long as it’s a recent device with an up-to-date operating system.

If you have a phone that runs Android 12+ or iOS 13+, you can pair it with a PS5 controller and use that to play your home console favorites on the go. To tie these devices together, you might want to consider the NexiGo Controller Phone Clip. This clip firmly attaches your phone to a DualSense controller for a uniquely portable experience. One of its best features is the adjustable mount so you find the ideal angle for your phone.

Gaming from your phone lets you immerse yourself in a setting that best fits each game. As an example, finding a rooftop view while you're swinging through New York as Spiderman will make you feel like the webhead himself. For you fans of samurai games, enjoying a sunny day in the backyard with Ghost of Tsushima can help you truly appreciate the beautiful landscape of Feudal Japan.

Just a note: to improve your gameplay and reduce lag, we recommend adjusting your PS5’s settings. In the Video Quality for Remote Play menu, set the resolution and frame rate to Standard or Low. Also make sure that wherever you’re playing has a fast internet connection and a strong Wi-Fi signal.

We hope this list gives you some inspiration for how to make playing your PS5 even more fun. If you’re looking for more ways to take your experience to the next level, check out our collection of NexiGo PS5 Accessories.
